My Wife

Purbasha and I got married on 19th January 2001. She had completed her Master of Arts in Political Science from Calcutta University in the year 2000. At present she is teaching in a primary school in our neighbourhood and plans to do her B.Ed. some time soon.

Purbasha is a good cook and her repertoire includes paneer (cottage cheese) dishes - my favourite. Even as a devout non-vegetarian, she has not succeeded in changing my vegetarian habits.

Her worst fears are about dogs, which I sometimes try to counter with my doggy..err dogged reasonings, but as yet with failure.

Her tryst with the very unIndian clime of Bangalore at first met with headaches, red nose and sneezes, but over the months I venture to say that she has begun to tolerate, or even like, the city.

Her biggest strength is that, though sometimes temperamental, she is very moderate in her opinions and does not have the intense likes and dislikes, a quality I lack. As a result, she gets on very well with everyone she meets. And she is a great friend of the little children she teaches at the school.

I think she is infinitely patient with me, even when office work keeps me away from home late into the evening. I thank her for that. And she has effortlessly taken up her new role and duties in her new family.

And I thank her for bearing with me for so long as it took to create these pages, always supporting even when I was busy hitting the keys well into the night.

Purbasha, on the morning of the wedding, 19th January, 2001
