Art

In the following pages are shown some paintings that represent some the finest works of art made by the human hand, including prehistoric cave art, drawn millenia ago by our ancient ancestors, and traditional Indian art which go mostly anonymous due to lack of awareness about the artist and perhaps also due to the 'ethnic' labelling. Then, there is the the Bengal School which has shaped the direction of modern Indian art.

I like Neo-classical and Impresionist art. My perennial favourites are Ingres and Renoir. Both lived in 19th century France, beyond which they do not share anything in common. The former was the classicist patronized by Napoleon; the latter belonged to the genre of middle and late century bohemians who tried to do things differently.

The works of Cézanne and Van Gogh (another favourite) are in the Post-impressionism page.

There are many others that I have not included here only due to lack of time and space, most notably Vermeer, Goya and Delacroix - the enigmas of their times who cannot be categorized as easily as the others. I do intend to fill the shortcoming some time.

Lastly, there are a few samples of the very modern art of satire and fun in the Cartoons page.
